Henry H. Hutchinson’s legal practice encompasses a broad range of activities in the business law area, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. Hank advises clients regarding matters concerning organizational and operational legal issues, tax and securities laws, and certain regulatory-compliance-related matters. He has represented taxpayers in controversies with the Internal Revenue Service and the Alabama Department of Revenue in various forums.
Hank has been a principal author of, or contributor to, a number of Alabama acts, including the legislation authorizing the Alabama Tax Tribunal, the Alabama Uniform Disclaimer Act, the Alabama Taxpayers Bill of Rights and Uniform Revenue Procedures Act, and the Alabama Interstate Banking Act. He and other members of the firm have in the past advised the Joint Fiscal Committee of the Alabama Legislature regarding significant tax legislation.
Hank has spoken on a number of business law subjects at a variety of seminars sponsored by the Alabama State Bar, National Business Institute, Inc., Alabama Community Bankers Association, and other organizations. He has authored articles on several tax and securities law subjects.
Hank is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Co-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute on Federal Taxation, Past Chairman of the Alabama Federal Tax Clinic, and Past Chairman of the Alabama State Bar Tax Section. He is a member of the Planning Committee of the Southeastern Business Law Institute. He is listed in The Best Lawyers of America under corporate and tax law. In addition to his professional activities, Hank is a member of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Academy Foundation, President of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery YMCA Foundation, and a member of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100.
