On September 10, the U.S. Navy commissioned the USS Montgomery at the Alabama State Docks in Mobile, clearing the ship to enter active service and head to open waters.
The second ship ever named in honor of Alabama’s capital city, the USS Montgomery is an Independence-Variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS 8) that will provide the world’s most technologically advanced warfighting capability and operational flexibility as it joins the U.S. 7th Fleet.
The USS Montgomery can support surface warfare, undersea warfare, mine warfare, search and rescue, maritime surveillance and interdiction, and intelligence gathering, among many other operations.
*As a Montgomery-based firm, Capell & Howard and its attorneys and employees are honored by the U.S. Navy’s chosen name for the USS Montgomery. To show the firm’s support of the ship’s commissioning, Capell & Howard provided a $5,000 “McDonough” donation to the USS Montgomery Commissioning and Support Foundation.
